Adding "Parent Device" field to NOC view/details view

$

A bit of research showed me how to add the "parent device" field to the devices view:

- Right-click to the right of the column headers in devices view

- Add it from device properties

- Go to configuration -> my settings and save it

But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add it to the NOC view. As far as I can tell, adding the fields to NOC view is the only way to get them to show up in the "Edit monitor" view (which we also use as a "details" view.)

Compare and contrast the two screenshots attached. One has the device settings and one does not. I'm not even sure HOW I have that on one of the systems in question, since I didn't add it - some default setting that I messed up on the other system?

Any insight from anyone who might be hanging around?

Call was canceled by the message filter; oserror: 0x80010002

I am getting this error intermittenly while monitoring several of our SQL boxes.  They are Windows 2003 Enterprise x64.  I have tried RPC and WMI and get the random errors either way.

The monitors that are having trouble are drive space and services.

Excerpt from Log:

2009-02-24 00:03:13 monitor state change | from(up) to(warn) name(servername [SQL Server \(ESNG\) Service]) type(service) id(6112972065885)
2009-02-24 00:03:13 monitor test failed | critical(true) error(Call was canceled by the message filter; oserror: 0x80010002) name(servername [SQL Server \(ESNG\) Service]) type(service) id(6112972065885)

I am on IP Monitor v9.04.  I have checked all relevant Firewalls for dropped packets and have found none.

how to use the MIB builder

How does the iPMonitor MIB Builder work on the supprot web site? Does it compile a new OID into your iPMonitor installation for you, or does it compile a new MIB database that you then have to copy to your iPMonitor application to "update" your installation?

Multiple NIC and SNMP issues?

$

We are using ipMonitor 10 to monitor about 400 servers right now. We are moving forward with a new backup system that runs on a separate network. To make this work we are installing a secondary NIC in all of our systems. On my ipMonitor box after I installed the secondary NIC I started getting SNMP failures on most systems. So my question is, is this normal?

Setup:
NIC Team: internal network (default gateway set)
Secondary NIC: backup network  (no default gateway)

We are registering DNS for both as well. I'm trying to determine if the second NIC/network caused the issue or if it was something else. Using a SNMP test utility it would fail as well. I have since disabled the secondary NIC and things seem ok, but I did have to restart a great many systems' SNMP service before they came back online.

If it did cause the problem, is there a way to make ipMonitor only work via one of the connections? We aren't using Traps at all, just simple SNMP for things like drive space, CPU, etc.

Thanks!

401 Access Denied using the WSDL API

I am running ipMonitor 10.6 and cannot for the LIFE of me connect to the WSDL via code.

I can see the URL in my browser just fine, but, on the same machine, via code, I immediately get a 401 Access Denied error whether I use SOAP or CURL.

Documentation is dry at best and there aren't many examples out there.

$context = stream_context_create(array('ssl' => array('verify_peer' => FALSE)));

$soapURL = 'https://domain.com/soap/status.asmx?wsdl';

$soapParameters = array  (

            'login' => 'user',

            'password' => 'password',

            'WSDL' => TRUE,

            'stream_context' => $context

            );

$soapClient = new SoapClient($soapURL,$soapParameters);

And that yields:

HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.0 401 Access Denied

Problem getting external process action to run...

I'm having some trouble getting an external process action to run.  I have a space alert monitor and when it goes off I have a powershell script that goes out to delete some spaceholder files to clear the alert.  When testing I get the error "Access rights are insufficient. The test failed".  I've tried running under multiple credentials.  I've logged into the ipMonitor server using those credentials and run the command line from the alert with no issues.  As a test, I even tried putting a bad path to the powershell.exe executable and I still get the same error so I'm not sure what it's testing to tell me access rights are insufficient?

I'm sure something is wrong, but without any more detailed errors or logs I'm having some problems troubleshooting.  Anyone else run into a similar issue or have any troubleshooting suggestions?

ipMonitor - Auto Login as Guest

I had submitted a ticket to support and they had said this isn't possible but I got it figured out and wanted to pass it along.  We run a central digital signage in our IT dept that displays ipMonitor dashboard.  On reboots I wanted it to auto start the page and login.  Since the addition of the guest account and button in ipMonitor, you can now call this URL to accomplish this (you must enable guest l: https://servername/login_form.htm?guestlogin

How do I turn off ssl 3.0 support in the web server? (CVE-2014-3566 poodle)

I'm using ipMonitor which has a build-in web server. I need to turn off SSL 3.0 support in the server to prevent an attack via poodle, CVE-2014-3566.

Is there a setting that allows this to be accomplished?

Monitor wmi namespace root\MSCluster with IPMonitor

Hello

We have tried to monitor a Microsoft Failover Cluster with IPMonitor, but apparently the application has to use the authentication level "Packet Privacy", which IPMonitor doesn't support I assume.

We can monitor certain WMI namespaces like root\cimv2, but root\MSCluster gives an error "An error occurred while communicating with the WMI Service: Could not get classes."

Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

Thanks much and regards,

Patrick

AS400 Monitoring?

I have a couple of AS/400's on site (model 720's) and I want to monitor disk space and CPU via ipMonitor. I know SNMP is working on the boxes as have had other SNMP utils able to pick up this info but there isn't a MIB available for ipMonitor.

 Anyone doing this already?

Thanks.

Monitor IBM Server Temperature

We are trying to monitor temperature on a x3650 server. Unlike Dell server, we are not able to get the SNMP working. I assume we do not have the required MIBs in our ipMonitor SNMP list? With Solarwinds consultants help I've now imported a pack of IBM MIBs into our ipMonitor. However, still no luck with monitoring the temperature. Other general items are fine, like CPU, Memory, SysUptime...

I notice with IBM server, it usually use a hardware adapter for remote monitoring RSA. Do I need to have it installed in order to monitor the temperature? I notice its update files shipped with MIBs, do I need to import them into ipMonitor as well?

Raise alert from C# application via SNMP possible?

$

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to raise an alert to IPMonitor from a C# application via snmp?  Essentially to raise a status alert depending on severity of problem encountered.

I've done some research on this and cannot find anything conclusive, such as how to create my own OID perhaps that could be monitored by IIPMonitor.

Thanks

Richard.

Monitor Text In File

I setup a file monitor to look for the text "Finished".  If it finds the text, the monitor is green.  If it doesn't find the text, the monitor remains green.  I would like a failure if the text is not found.  How can I accomplish this?

My ultimate goal is to send an alert if this monitor does not find the word "Finished."  I am sure I could pull this off with a VBScript.  However, I am hoping that your file monitor would provide a quick solution.
