ipMonitor 10.7 orphaned objects frustration

$

ipMon version:  10.7 build 1643

After upgrading to the above version I got lots of monitors in Orphaned Objects folder.  I moved each monitor to its proper device and everything worked and looked as it should until the ipMonitorSrv service restarted.  For instance after applying MS patches to the server running ipMonitor and rebooting it.

Is there a way to make ipMonitor remember the configuration once monitors in Orphaned Object folder are moved to their proper devices?

IPmonitor Discover not Discovering properly

IPmonitor is not scanning when using the discover function properly. It acts like if finds things and then it never shows them to add them at the end. After I do this once if I run a scan again the scan completed notification pops up instantly with no devices still. The only way that it will look as though it scans is if i restart the service.

If i manually add a device that works fine.

The server also has WPM and SAM installed on it.

Any suggestions?

How does IpMonitor works?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is already been asked or not, but I can't find an answer on the forum.

1. Does each devices that I want to monitor in the domain have to download and install IpMonitor? Currently, I can only monitor one computer which has ipmonitor installed, and then when I try add new devices in the web interface, it says "The Credential is not available for RPC impersonation." What can i do to go around that? my credential is already an admin.

2. Does the IpMonitor web interface have to be open, for it to record datas? Because apparently, I've left my computer on for 3 days with CPU running on 100% using a torture test(the ipMonitor web interface was closed, however, the "ipmonitor watch dog" is still running), and the IpMonitor didnt' record any data, but then when I open the ipMonitor today for an hour or so, it started to record the data immediately.

3. Does this only work on windows? How about mac?

Monitoring Printers

I haven't spent to much time on this yet but is there a way that I can monitor a printer, such as toner levels or fuser, so when they get to a certain level I can setup an alert to go to who maintaines the printers?  I have fooled around with searching the OID's but I am still trying to get a hang on those.  Any help is appreciated...thanks.

How to monitor swap in Linux ?

Using ipMonitor to monitor Linux physical memory usage could not show the actual bottleneck. Only high memory usage plus swapping activities means the system is running at shortage of RAM.

In ipMonitor, how to monitor swapping space or activities (swap in / out) ?

Thanks.

Hi,

last server failure showed that even if server was not reachable, monitor for Active Directory - tcp 389 - was still showing as up and available.

Even if I forced the test status didn't change. Is it bug or I miss something?

Any way to monitor Microsoft Message Queuing(MSMQ) Queues from IpMonitor

Hello Guys,

Good Morning!!

I am currently using IpMonitor 10.8.2. Now what I would like to do is to know if I can monitor MSMQ Queues from IpMonitor.

Basically my scenario is I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 where we have installed MSMQ feature and we have setup different private queues in it. Each queue is displaying different records. Now I know I can monitor the MSMQ service from IpMonitor but it will only inform me when the service is not running but if I wish to monitor what is the count of each Queue and inform the developers when any specific queue exceed the threshold count can I do that from IpMonitor?

If yes then please somebody help me how can I do that? Any custom WMI script or SNMP or anyways..

Thanks a lot,

ipMonitor 10 - updating HTTP: User Experience Monitor using API

$

ipMonitor Info:

  Version: 10.0

  Build: 1371

Hoping someone might be able to provide some insight on an issue i'm having...

I work for a small-midsize ASP/Hosting company. We develop and host our application on our equipment and host it to our customers over HTTP/HTTPS. Occasionally our app crashes or becomes unresponsive so i have created a monitor in ipMonitor called HTTP: User Experience which sends an HTTP request to a specific .jsp of the app to see if it responds. The monitor grabs the file size and checksum of the specified URL and matches it to the values that were saved in the monitor when it was initially created.

My issue is that we make regular changes and updates to our app which means we need to recompile the code. When we do this, the .jsp that we query gets changed (every single jsp gets touched) so the checksum of the file comes back different than what was originally set in the monitor which causes it to go red and send alerts regardless of whether or not the page is responsive. The only way to rectify the issue is to manually login to ipMonitor, navigate to the monitor, select update under the Analysis of test results section, and then select apply once the new checksum is generated. We make changes so often that this can be a pain and a lot of times people either forget to do it or just don't bother since they know someone else will.

I have been working with the API (via PowerShell) for quite awhile to disable/enable monitors or make changes to drive space thresholds so i'm pretty familiar with it but i can't figure out how to initiate the update to get the new checksum. I can manually change the values but i don't know what ipMonitor is using to get the checksum. It's definitely not MD5 or SHA... it looks like it may be some sort of CRC but i haven't been able to reproduce a checksum using any of my tools.

Does anyone know what ipMonitor uses to get the checksum for HTTP requests??

Or better yet, does anyone know if there is a way to initiate an update through the actual API?

Here is a picture of the monitor for clarification:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Monitoring File or Directory Modified Date

As I understand it, we are able to have informational emails sent when the directory modified date has changed. I need to be able to trigger an alert when a directory has NOT been changed. This would signal an automation problem in our production environment. Does anyone know if it is possible to have alerts triggered by comparing the last modified date to the current date and fire if it is more than a couple of hours or so.

Reports with ipMonitor

We are monitoring some call counters with the Custom SNMP monitor. The value of the OID is an Integer and the walk and monitor displays this value.Variable = .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.8748.37.3.1.1.0
Value    = Integer32 1

 When we make a report from this we get a floating value graphically and in the SNMP value the report displays a floating value.

SmartGroup Filter Rules

I am setting up some new Smart Groups which will contain servers for a common system but for different environments. So, for example, SmartGroup 1 will be called "Development" and smart group rules configured to only include those servers with tag matching "BusinessApplication" and "Development".

My problem is that I have 20+ servers used for "BusinessApplication" across 4 different environments and they all appear in the same smart group because they all contain the tag "BusinessApplication".

Does smart group include the facility to use logical operators? So I can create Smartgroup called "Development" and the rules set to only include servers with tags matching "BusinessApplication" AND "Development".

Thank you

ipMonitor support on Windows 2012 R2?

$

The installation guide says that Windows 2012 is supported. But its unclear if Windows 2012 R2 is officially supported.

Also, the release notes do not say anything about adding support for Windows 2012 or R2.

I'm looking to migrate an existing ipMonitor away from Windows 2003 and onto the latest supported version. Should I use 2012 or 2012 R2?

Printer monitoring via OIDs

I am curious if there is way to monitor things like toner low and paper out/ jam using OIDs. The current OID im using is straight from the SNMP search(1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.5.1.2.1) and according to the decsription it should funtion properly. However, the values returned are not accurate and I am not informed when the toner is low or if paper is out. I have tested this by manually removing the paper and the toner low warning is already active. I have an HP 2840 colorjet that's Jetdirect compatible

401 Access Denied using the WSDL API

$

I am running ipMonitor 10.6 and cannot for the LIFE of me connect to the WSDL via code.

I can see the URL in my browser just fine, but, on the same machine, via code, I immediately get a 401 Access Denied error whether I use SOAP or CURL.

Documentation is dry at best and there aren't many examples out there.

$context = stream_context_create(array('ssl' => array('verify_peer' => FALSE)));

$soapURL = 'https://domain.com/soap/status.asmx?wsdl';

$soapParameters = array  (

            'login' => 'user',

            'password' => 'password',

            'WSDL' => TRUE,

            'stream_context' => $context

            );

$soapClient = new SoapClient($soapURL,$soapParameters);

And that yields:

HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.0 401 Access Denied
