Windows server upgrade from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2 64 bit

Hello Everyon

We currently have IPmonitor 10.0 installed on a windows server 2003 R2 enterprise edition box. We are planning to upgrade this server to windows server 2018 R2 64 bit. I have a few questions on compatibility before we attempt the upgrade.

Is IPmonitor 10 X compatible with windows server 2008 64 bit

Is upgrading the OS to 2008 with retaining IPmonitor is recommended or we need to install a clean IPmonitor on the new server.

If compatible, do we have any procedure to follow during upgrade.

Hi All,

I want to monitor the dllhost.exe with ipMonitor. I can add a new monitor with the hrSWRunPerfMem.PID but unfortunately when the application stops and starts the PID will change and monitoring stops.

Is there a way to monitor a single process?

Printer monitoring via OIDs

I am curious if there is way to monitor things like toner low and paper out/ jam using OIDs. The current OID im using is straight from the SNMP search(1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.5.1.2.1) and according to the decsription it should funtion properly. However, the values returned are not accurate and I am not informed when the toner is low or if paper is out. I have tested this by manually removing the paper and the toner low warning is already active. I have an HP 2840 colorjet that's Jetdirect compatible

When is the last time SolarWinds released a decent product update for IPMonitor?  I am not sure even worth paying maintenance renewal every year!! Quality of this product is degrading day by day.  I think its time to look for other monitoring software.

Historical Data

Hello,

I was recently asked to pull performance data on one of our systems, much to my horror I have no historical data on any of my nodes. I went to run a report and when I finish filling in the info, server name, the monitors I want data on, the date etc. I get nothing for my results.  Could I have missed something on setup?  I'm working in a Windows environment monitoring around 45 systems.

Hi all,

I work for a global company who has several separate instances of IPMonitor.  Does anyone know a way I can feed multiple instances to a single dashboard/display?  I want to monitor all alerts from a couple of displays.

Hello Fellow Community members....

I need your help..  I am running Soalrwinds IP Monitor 9 and need to set up a disk space alert for a Linux box.

Basically the apache logs are filling up the /var partition and I would like a monitor to email me when it gets above 80%.

However I can only see support for a disk space monitor on a windows based machine.

Is there anyway to monitor disk space on a box running linux?

Many thanks for your time

Ian

How do you create an EVENTLOG monitor for TaskScheduler events?

I am using IPMonitor 10.8.2.  I can successfully create monitors for Applications, Security, and System events using regular expressions for matching event text, but I cannot get the same monitors to work for the nested event areas.  Specifically, I am trying to monitor TaskScheduler events in Event Viewer --> Applications and Services Logs --> Microsoft --> Windows --> TaskScheduler --> Operational.  I have chosed "User Defined" for the "Event Area" with a value of "Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational".  I haven't found much in the way of documentation for this, so it's likely that I'm doing something wrong.  I have tried with and without setting up an administrative user in the "Credential for Monitoring" section.

Does anyone else have monitors working for nested event areas in IPMonitor?  If so, what is the secret?

Thanks,

Kevin

How to add drive space alert on IP monitor?

I am the administrator on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard (32-bit) - GSNAPRINT installed with IPmonitor tool version 9. I want to add an drive space alert for another server (Windows Server 2008 R2 - Standard - GSCTTLBACKUP) but was not successful.

But there were other file shares which were added for monitoring on IPmonitor to the same server (GSCTTLBACKUP).

I have attached the screenshot for reference. After I log on the GSNAPRINT server web console and I click on "Return to Device View" where I am not finding the second option.

I am following this link https://support.ipmonitor.com/helps/649580d2e53d4207813667c9a7db0f12.aspx for configuring, but I am not able to find the second step as mentioned below.

2.   Click the Monitors menu option, then select Add a Monitor.

SNMP services are enabled on GSCTTLBACKUP server. Ping alert is working for the same server.

Kindly help me!

Custom temperature monitors?

Ok, so here is the deal.  We have some PowerWare UPS units and they have an extra external ambient air temperature/humidity probe that plugs into the PowerWare SNMP card.  When I scan the UPS for things to monitor it only shows up with the internal temperature probe for the UPS and not the external probe.

Now I know the values are exposed via SNMP since I did a walk and found this, which matches up to the values found in the PowerWare management page:

OID: .1.3.6.1.4.1.534.1.6.5.0

Name: xupsEnvRemoteTemp.0

Value: 23         (which is the temperature in Celcius)

So, what I am wondering is if I can get ipmonitor to create a temperature monitor that uses the values from that OID or if I can some how get ipmonitor to automatically pickup these sensors when it scans a UPS.

Oh, and by the way, when I got to Monitors->Add->Add New Monitor  the "Add New Monitor" option is all grayed out, I figured that might be where I could possibly do this, but it seems inaccessible for some reason.

Microsoft Windows Monitor. Monitor Status: Lost Monitor Test: Failed: Error Code: Unable to connect to the remote device

Hi,

I just installed and setup the trial version of ipmonitor.
The majority of my servers are showing as being down. When I drill into each server they are all failing on the same monitor...

Monitor Name: Microsoft Windows
Monitor Status: Lost

Monitor Type: Windows
Availability: 0.00%
Coverage: 3 hours, 56 mins, 1 secs
Critical Failures: 48
Alerts Sent: 3
In Progress: No
Last Run: 2010/01/15,15:27:09
Next Run: 3 mins, 59 secs
Results Set
Monitor Test:Failed
Error Code:

Unable to connect to the remote device

Can anyone help explain this monitor, why I am experiencing this problem and how to fix it? The credentials I provided are for a domain account that is a memeber of the administrators group on each server.

Thanks... BA

How to setup SNMP traps properly?

I'm not sure I understand how I'm supposed to configure SNMP trap monitoring, so I have a couple questions:

1.  With a typical device, there might be 200+ different kinds of traps.  Assuming that I want to monitor for 50 of those, am I supposed to add 50 SNMP trap monitors to the device?

2.  Is there a performance cost to having so many trap monitors?

I've attached an image showing how I setup a device monitoring our air conditioner and the related SNMP traps.  Any help would be appreciated.

IpMonitor: What We're Working On

$

Hi everyone – the IpMonitor team is hard at work developing a number of key enhancements:

1. Bandwidth monitors will separate inbound and outbound traffic. This enhancement will provide a more detailed view of bandwidth usage, allowing the ability to test incoming and outgoing data rates.

2.Use Windows credentials for IpMonitor login.

3. Define customized device types. This will help organize data in reports.

4. Create a monitor and settings and deploy to a list of servers. This “templatized” deployment will save time and decrease the possibility of errors when deploying the same monitors to multiple devices.

5. Configure reports with non-contiguous times.  Customize timeframes to leave out weekends, evening hours, etc.

6. Enhanced Exchange support - Support for Exchange 2010.

7. A shiny new printer monitor

8. The ability to sort columns in reporting view

PLEASE NOTE:  We are working on these items based on this priority order, but this is NOT a commitment that all of these enhancements will make the next release. If you have comments or questions on any of these items (e.g. how would it work?) or would like to be included in a preview demo, please let us know!

IP Monitor - Sending alert to mobile email address failing

Hi

I am trying to configure alert to go out to a mobile sms gateway but this doesn't seem to be working. I get the error below upon trying to do a force test

Action Error: The outbound alert message did not reach its destination. The test failed.

Alerts going out to normal email address works fine.

The version of IP Monitor I am running is : 10.6 build 1567

Has anyone seen this issue before?

Cheers,

Kris

We have 4 MDS 9148 Fabric switches that send these out when ever a server is rebooted.  They all say the same thing,

Found: 1 of 1

What we don't know is why and for what reason.  These also just started happening recently.
