SNMPv3 Does not work

Hello All,

IpMonitor Server: 10.8.2 Build 1500

I have created SNMPv3 credentials on few hardware devices like APC ATS and PDU with below configurations:

Authentication Protocol: Available options are SHA and MD5. Treid both

Privacy Protocol: Available options are AES and DES. Tried both.

Now i created a SNMPv3 credential in IPMonitor as below configurations with exact same username and password set in the device :

Usage Restrictions: May be authorized for use by any account

Disaply Categories: Only selected SNMPv3 Authentication.

Everytime i scan the device with SNMPv3 monitor it crashes IPMonitor service. The service goes into stopping state and i have to start the service. Can somebody please help me setup SNMPv3 monitor?

Thanks,

Dhyanesh Mehta

Adding "Parent Device" field to NOC view/details view

$

A bit of research showed me how to add the "parent device" field to the devices view:

- Right-click to the right of the column headers in devices view

- Add it from device properties

- Go to configuration -> my settings and save it

But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add it to the NOC view. As far as I can tell, adding the fields to NOC view is the only way to get them to show up in the "Edit monitor" view (which we also use as a "details" view.)

Compare and contrast the two screenshots attached. One has the device settings and one does not. I'm not even sure HOW I have that on one of the systems in question, since I didn't add it - some default setting that I messed up on the other system?

Any insight from anyone who might be hanging around?

SmartGroup Filter Rules

I am setting up some new Smart Groups which will contain servers for a common system but for different environments. So, for example, SmartGroup 1 will be called "Development" and smart group rules configured to only include those servers with tag matching "BusinessApplication" and "Development".

My problem is that I have 20+ servers used for "BusinessApplication" across 4 different environments and they all appear in the same smart group because they all contain the tag "BusinessApplication".

Does smart group include the facility to use logical operators? So I can create Smartgroup called "Development" and the rules set to only include servers with tags matching "BusinessApplication" AND "Development".

Thank you

orion or IpMonitor Automation?

I'm looking into ways to mass add devices to a network monitoring software using scripts. It doesn't IpMonitor has any feature that would let me add devices to it with command line scripts or POST. Do Orion / NPM have any kind of support for this? or a way I could upload devices from a database  / just without gui interaction, effectively giving me the same value? Thank you.

AS400 Monitoring?

I have a couple of AS/400's on site (model 720's) and I want to monitor disk space and CPU via ipMonitor. I know SNMP is working on the boxes as have had other SNMP utils able to pick up this info but there isn't a MIB available for ipMonitor.

 Anyone doing this already?

Thanks.

Maintenance cost

We were unable to renew our maintenance last year, but now I would like to find out how to get back on maintenance.  I have sent 2 emails to sales@solarwinds.com asking how....no response.  I opened Case #35871 - "Maintenance and/or upgrade cost through my customer support portal on 3/5.....no response.  Now we are being asked for budget cuts, so I am afraid Solarwinds lack of response means we will be stuck on v8.5 for a while.  Is business so good that you don't need any more revenue?

SNMP Traps Rejected

Product Version: 10.0 build 1371

OS: Windows Server 2003

We're attempting to monitor a motion sensor from a BlackBox ServSensor8 appliance. The appliance is triggering alerts via it's own internal email alerting system, but we could not get ipMonitor to accept any of the traps.

The logs show that the appliance is sending the trap - but ipMonitor is rejecting it for some reason. Any advice will be appreciated.

ipMonitor support on Windows 2012 R2?

$

The installation guide says that Windows 2012 is supported. But its unclear if Windows 2012 R2 is officially supported.

Also, the release notes do not say anything about adding support for Windows 2012 or R2.

I'm looking to migrate an existing ipMonitor away from Windows 2003 and onto the latest supported version. Should I use 2012 or 2012 R2?

Is ipMonitor going away?

I've noticed it's no longer on the product lists on SolarWind's website.  The product roadmap hasn't been updated in several years.  I haven't been able to find any EOL announcements except for those regarding pre-10.0 versions, nor anything obvious on first glance in the product forums.

Dependencies dont work

Hello All,

We are using IPMonitor v10.8.2. My scenario is as below:

We have 5 different networks. IPMonitor server resides in 1 of the network. Now what i have done is i have configured Private IP of other network's Firewall (You can conside router in general) as a depenecy of each device in a network. So for Example for each device resiging in A network has depency as private IP of firewall of network B and so on all devices of all netowkrs are configured.

So my question here is, is it right way of configuring dependency or have i made any mistake here?

Because whenever Internet goes down in 1 particular network, the depency should be active as the other network connectivity is still there and as i have set other networks Firewall as dependency, it should detect it as active and suppress email of current network right? But it is not happening. We still get all the alerts of all devices from this particular network.

So please help me understand and configure group dependency in a correct way.

Thanks.

WAVECOM GSM Modem not work .

 Hello there  8-)

I've brought a GSM modem and config everything I could find from the Doc.and once I trigger the SMS alert, the IPmonitor sent a SMS to my mobile properly .but after that, the SMS alert never worked again. 8-(

I've checked other post on the forum, and also change the bit rate to 115200.

my GSM MODEM is using the chipset WAVECOM Q2403A which compatible with GSM Phase2 / 2+
I could use AT command to sent message from the GSM MODEM.so seems the GSM modem should not have any problem.

BTW: coud you give me a more detailed configuration guide for how to connect a GSM MODEM ? or where I could got more debug message ?

thanks in advance.

Event Log Monitor - Want to trigger alert if it finds 5 entries in the log

$

In ipMonitor version 8 and earlier, I was able to configure event log monitors to send an alert only if it saw x number of entries that matched the search criteria.  Essentially, if our web app threw one error, we'll review it in the morning.  If it throws 5,10 or continuous errors in the event log, I want to send an email to the on-call phone.

I'm at a new position now and have installed a trial copy of ipMonitor 9 and am trying to configure the event log monitor to do the same thing.  I works in finding the pattern but sends an email after only 1 event even though I have "Accumulated Failures per Alert" set to 5.  In addition, while it sends an email, the monitor is never "down".  I recall in earlier versions, the monitor would be down until the next test, say 5 minutes later.

  1. Can the new version do what I'm asking?
  2. Is there a setting I'm missing?
thx,
sean

how to use the MIB builder

How does the iPMonitor MIB Builder work on the supprot web site? Does it compile a new OID into your iPMonitor installation for you, or does it compile a new MIB database that you then have to copy to your iPMonitor application to "update" your installation?

I have been getting this error for 2 consecutive nights.  Auth1 Drive Space C$ is down.  Reported The network path was not found; oserror: 0x35

When i RDP on to the server i can see the C drive and connect to it via another machine.

Any help would be awesome, becuase i can not find any info searching the forums about this!

Is there a better way to do Process monitoring via SNMP

$
0
0

We monitor processes via SNMP using a two line powershell script which does a snmpwalk of the current running processes on the target  machines host_resource mib, returning a 0 or 1, depending it it finds the process or not. This simple script works for both Unix and Windows successfully however we have hit two problems.

The first, is that it cannot differentiate multiple processes by the same name.

The second problem is that the overhead of using powershell for these 20 external process monitors can be greater than ipmonitor itself which has over 3000 active standard monitors. I think this is because powershell is using CPU to actively check if the snmpwalk has come back yet, which can take a second or two.

Below is the simple but effective generic script which we pass the target server, community string and process name as parameters. It runs on the IPMONITOR host machine, requiring nothing installed on the target servers.

if (invoke-expression "d:\net-snmp\usr\bin\snmpwalk -v 1 -c $($args[0]) $($args[1]) 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.4.2.1.2" | select-string "$($args[2])") { Write-Host "FOUND"; exit 1 } else { Write-Host "NOT FOUND";exit 0 }

Does anyone have a better/faster/more effecive/alternate way of being able to solve or improve either of these issues?

Does anyone know if process monitoring, including monitoring multiple processes of the same name, will be added as a monitor type at any point in IPMONITOR's future?

Hello,

I am new to the IP Monitor Community and to the monitoring in general. I am trying to find out how to set up a monitor for the Event viewer. I could not find this info anywhere.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to monitor a "Warning" or "Error" in the Application section of the Event Viewer for a specific string:

"WARNING: exceeded"

I would like the alert to be E-mail,.

Thank you.
