Setting Tags on Devices

I would like to identify which city and building my devices are in. Tags seem like a good way to do this, but I cannot figure out how to mass edit device tags, vs. monitor tags. Can it be done?

I am running 9.0.6. Is v10 better in this regard?

Thank you,

Scott

Hello All,

Good Evening!!

This is Dhyanesh Mehta, back again with another query. Is there any way we can generate a report to scan and find out which devices/servers have not been rebooted since last 30 days or lets say n number of days? If it is then will you please guide me how?

IP Monitor Version: 10.8.2

Please let me know in case more information is needed from my side.

SNMPv3 Does not work

Hello All,

IpMonitor Server: 10.8.2 Build 1500

I have created SNMPv3 credentials on few hardware devices like APC ATS and PDU with below configurations:

Authentication Protocol: Available options are SHA and MD5. Treid both

Privacy Protocol: Available options are AES and DES. Tried both.

Now i created a SNMPv3 credential in IPMonitor as below configurations with exact same username and password set in the device :

Usage Restrictions: May be authorized for use by any account

Disaply Categories: Only selected SNMPv3 Authentication.

Everytime i scan the device with SNMPv3 monitor it crashes IPMonitor service. The service goes into stopping state and i have to start the service. Can somebody please help me setup SNMPv3 monitor?

Thanks,

Dhyanesh Mehta

ipMonitor Evaluation - SNMP

Hi.

We are evaluating ipMonitor SNMP with a Nutanix HCI. Looks that ipMonitor does not have in the SNMP dB the Nutanix MIB (even is on the Orion MIB dB). The Solarwinds ipMonitor Support mentioned a process (Import MIB files into the ipMonitor MIB database - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support ) to import MIB into ipMonitor MIB dB but it requires Solarwinds Support Account; because we are evaluating we do not have access. Did someone know if Nutanix is on the ipMonitor MIB dB? Did someone has successfully connect ipMonitor with Nutanix?

thanks

I haven't spent to much time on this yet but is there a way that I can monitor a printer, such as toner levels or fuser, so when they get to a certain level I can setup an alert to go to who maintaines the printers?  I have fooled around with searching the OID's but I am still trying to get a hang on those.  Any help is appreciated...thanks.

IpMonitor: What We're Working On

Hi everyone – the IpMonitor team is hard at work developing a number of key enhancements:

1. Bandwidth monitors will separate inbound and outbound traffic. This enhancement will provide a more detailed view of bandwidth usage, allowing the ability to test incoming and outgoing data rates.

2.Use Windows credentials for IpMonitor login.

3. Define customized device types. This will help organize data in reports.

4. Create a monitor and settings and deploy to a list of servers. This “templatized” deployment will save time and decrease the possibility of errors when deploying the same monitors to multiple devices.

5. Configure reports with non-contiguous times.  Customize timeframes to leave out weekends, evening hours, etc.

6. Enhanced Exchange support - Support for Exchange 2010.

7. A shiny new printer monitor

8. The ability to sort columns in reporting view

PLEASE NOTE:  We are working on these items based on this priority order, but this is NOT a commitment that all of these enhancements will make the next release. If you have comments or questions on any of these items (e.g. how would it work?) or would like to be included in a preview demo, please let us know!

Upgrade from v10.8.3 to v10.9.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2

I have ipMonitor v10.8.3 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and upgraded to 10.9.1 however the service "ipmonitorsrv" keeps failing with a general "app crash" error in the application event log. I have checked the pre reqs and that has Windows Server 2012 as the minimal o/s version. I was able to upgrade to 10.8.3 in March '19 ok with out any issues.

Is it possible to upgrade to v10.9.1 on a Windows Server 2008 R2?

Thanks

device discovery comes back with no results

I am running IP monitor Version: 9.0 build 1236
on windows server 2K3 SP2 and when I use discovery to scan a subnet I don't get any results. I can see that SNMP gets replies from devices while the scan is being performed, but in the next screen I get 'No devices have recently been found'.

The Windows Event viewer reports the following:

SolarWinds Discovery Service

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( SolarWinds Discovery Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service started.

Does anyone have a clue why this happens?

Monitor for password change or expiration

We had a situation recently that has raised some questions.  We have a spam filter that uses ldap to query for real accounts before allowing email in.  A service account is used for the ldap query.

That password got changed/expired/something happened to it last night so all email was being blocked.  When I looked at the account in AD the account was not locked out and the password was set not to expire.  I re entered the password and tested LDAP with no issues.

Now here is my question, can you think of any way to setup monitoring using IP monitor to test if a certain account and password is working.

Monitor Text In File

I setup a file monitor to look for the text "Finished".  If it finds the text, the monitor is green.  If it doesn't find the text, the monitor remains green.  I would like a failure if the text is not found.  How can I accomplish this?

My ultimate goal is to send an alert if this monitor does not find the word "Finished."  I am sure I could pull this off with a VBScript.  However, I am hoping that your file monitor would provide a quick solution.

Windows Desktop App for visual alerting of downed monitors

Good day!

I would like to put in a feature request that's more of an add-on for the Windows desktop machines.   I'm looking for a small application that would log into the IPM API and just trigger an alert on my screen when something goes down and also give me the ability to acknowledge it.    There's an open source application that does something similar with another monitoring product.   The app is called nagstamon.   This would be incredibly handy for our NOC since they would be able be alerted with by a visual and audio cue when something goes red on IPM without having to have the web browser open.

Thanks for considering...

ipMonitor 10 - updating HTTP: User Experience Monitor using API

ipMonitor Info:

  Version: 10.0

  Build: 1371

Hoping someone might be able to provide some insight on an issue i'm having...

I work for a small-midsize ASP/Hosting company. We develop and host our application on our equipment and host it to our customers over HTTP/HTTPS. Occasionally our app crashes or becomes unresponsive so i have created a monitor in ipMonitor called HTTP: User Experience which sends an HTTP request to a specific .jsp of the app to see if it responds. The monitor grabs the file size and checksum of the specified URL and matches it to the values that were saved in the monitor when it was initially created.

My issue is that we make regular changes and updates to our app which means we need to recompile the code. When we do this, the .jsp that we query gets changed (every single jsp gets touched) so the checksum of the file comes back different than what was originally set in the monitor which causes it to go red and send alerts regardless of whether or not the page is responsive. The only way to rectify the issue is to manually login to ipMonitor, navigate to the monitor, select update under the Analysis of test results section, and then select apply once the new checksum is generated. We make changes so often that this can be a pain and a lot of times people either forget to do it or just don't bother since they know someone else will.

I have been working with the API (via PowerShell) for quite awhile to disable/enable monitors or make changes to drive space thresholds so i'm pretty familiar with it but i can't figure out how to initiate the update to get the new checksum. I can manually change the values but i don't know what ipMonitor is using to get the checksum. It's definitely not MD5 or SHA... it looks like it may be some sort of CRC but i haven't been able to reproduce a checksum using any of my tools.

Does anyone know what ipMonitor uses to get the checksum for HTTP requests??

Or better yet, does anyone know if there is a way to initiate an update through the actual API?

Here is a picture of the monitor for clarification:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How to configure Latency monitor with IP Monitor 10

Hello All,

This is my first post here so if i make any mistake in giving any vital information then please correct me. We are using Solarwinds IpMonitor 10 licensed version in our Enterprise network. We have 6 Data centers and about more than 150 servers. So far IpMonitor is working fine and giving us all vital alerts but we want to configure the Latency monitoring so we can be alerted when the latency is going higher than the threshold so we can check with the ISP and save the Production websites going down or not reachable to the customers.

Can Latency be monitored with IP Monitor and if it can be please can somebody guide me how to do that as it will be very helpful to me.

Thanks,

Dhyanesh

Run a report to gather information?

Hi there,

When I edit a device I see there is a field where I can add in Operating system information or system description.  Is there able to run a report to show this information?

Say to run a report on a category of Workstations just to get a list of Operating systems and system descriptions?  It seems the reports are all based on monitors and not device information?
