Monitoring Mapped Drives

Is there a simple way to create a monitor to check for the existance of a mapped drive?

email alert not working

email alerts have been working for years with no problem.  all of a sudden a couple of days ago email alerts stopped working.  need assistance to troubleshoot and fix.  here are some points regarding the issue for us.

1. the monitors are going red and are set to alert.

2. there are group alerts setup.

3. if i go into a group alert via

  • Configuration
  • Alert List
  • go to that alert
  • Force Test

the alert works fine and i receive the email

4. if a monitor goes red i do not receive email.  no changes on monitor alert setup.  has been working for years.

5. we recently had an exchange upgrade but that was about 6 months ago and it was working after the upgrade.

6. we recently had a mail domain name change so we edited all of the To/From email addresses in the alerts and in Configuration, System Settings, Identification

7. this started happening after the ipmonitor server was rebooted a couple of days ago.

8. i noticed at first that the tests in #3 above were giving cannot connect errors.  i wound up having to go to

  • Configuration
  • System Settings
  • Email Delivery

- i had to add SMTP relay server option with exchange server domain name and port 25.  after doing this i was successful on manual test in #3.  however automatic alerts are not working.

oh and also i can talk to the exchange server via telnet from ipmonitor server and send mail that way no problem (like this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153119.  also email server pings from ipmonitor server.

can you explain how i can force test and alert and get the email however when the monitor goes red and is supposed to alert it is not doing it?

or better yet can you help me resolve this issue.  it doesn't make sense to me.

Monitor TLS website

Is there a way to monitor a website that uses TLS instead of SSL?  Setting it up as a https monitor with port 443 returns an "unable to connect to remote device."  Same result when set up as an http monitor with port 443.

Hello,

I have learned that IP-Monitor is End Of Development, but is still supported.

Is there any available info regarding how long IP-monitor will be supported?

Thanks!

What We're Working On - ipMonitor

To receive updates on the ipMonitor roadmap, JOIN thwack and BOOKMARK this page

Since releasing 10.7, we are actively in the research and planning phases for the next release. Some new and exciting features we are working on are:

  • Generic WMI Monitor
  • Report SQL values returned by a Monitor within a report and notification/alerts
  • Email Cc: a notification alias/person and/or be able to pass all notification members to a single notification (since disparate support groups might have no idea who is also receiving the notification)
  • SNMPv3 Polling Support
  • Add support for Interface-MIB 64-bit counters (like in Orion)
  • Ability to specify backup SMTP server
  • The Alert Wizard notification template options in alphabetical order
  • Exporting Statistics to CSV

How to monitor swap in Linux ?

Using ipMonitor to monitor Linux physical memory usage could not show the actual bottleneck. Only high memory usage plus swapping activities means the system is running at shortage of RAM.

In ipMonitor, how to monitor swapping space or activities (swap in / out) ?

Thanks.

IPv6 support

Where does IPv6 support sit in the ipMonitor roadmap?  Hopefully its sooner rather than later.

I hadn't been too concerned about this previously, but today I attended an industry summit on the topic.  IPv4 address exhaustion is real and probably closer than we think.  The experts in our part of the world estimate our RIR will run out of addresses to allocate around mid next year.  Organisations are well advised to be proactive and begin transitioning towards IPv6 now rather than leaving it until a crisis hits and trying to deal with it then.  This came from none other than Vint Cerf, Google's Chief Internet Evangelist and the father of the internet.

I'm interested to know if ipMonitor will be able to keep pace with us as we transition to IPv6, or will it be relegated to monitoring IPv4 devices only for the foreseeable future?

Thanks - Simon

How do you create an EVENTLOG monitor for TaskScheduler events?

I am using IPMonitor 10.8.2.  I can successfully create monitors for Applications, Security, and System events using regular expressions for matching event text, but I cannot get the same monitors to work for the nested event areas.  Specifically, I am trying to monitor TaskScheduler events in Event Viewer --> Applications and Services Logs --> Microsoft --> Windows --> TaskScheduler --> Operational.  I have chosed "User Defined" for the "Event Area" with a value of "Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational".  I haven't found much in the way of documentation for this, so it's likely that I'm doing something wrong.  I have tried with and without setting up an administrative user in the "Credential for Monitoring" section.

Does anyone else have monitors working for nested event areas in IPMonitor?  If so, what is the secret?

Thanks,

Kevin

Cisco Catalyst 3850

I'm trying to add monitoring for a Cisco Catalyst 3850 switch stack in my IPMonitor installation.  When I try to add the device, it only comes back from scanning the device with a ping monitor and an snmp monitor.  The SNMP parameters are defined correctly on the switch.  Do I need to load different MIBs for the 3850s?

Server Reboot Monitoring?

Is it possible to monitor when a server reboots?  I know that a Ping monitor will show when a server is no longer responding, but that could just indicate that there's a problem with the network, NIC, etc. and that the server may still be up and running.  Ideally I would like to have an alert sent out via email if one of the servers actually performs a reboot.  Thanks in advance.

Multiple NIC and SNMP issues?

We are using ipMonitor 10 to monitor about 400 servers right now. We are moving forward with a new backup system that runs on a separate network. To make this work we are installing a secondary NIC in all of our systems. On my ipMonitor box after I installed the secondary NIC I started getting SNMP failures on most systems. So my question is, is this normal?

Setup:
NIC Team: internal network (default gateway set)
Secondary NIC: backup network  (no default gateway)

We are registering DNS for both as well. I'm trying to determine if the second NIC/network caused the issue or if it was something else. Using a SNMP test utility it would fail as well. I have since disabled the secondary NIC and things seem ok, but I did have to restart a great many systems' SNMP service before they came back online.

If it did cause the problem, is there a way to make ipMonitor only work via one of the connections? We aren't using Traps at all, just simple SNMP for things like drive space, CPU, etc.

Thanks!

[snmp: trap] has new information alerts in IPmonitor

We have 4 MDS 9148 Fabric switches that send these out when ever a server is rebooted.  They all say the same thing,

Found: 1 of 1

What we don't know is why and for what reason.  These also just started happening recently.

Addin MIBs to ipMonitor

$

Please Note:

Adding MIBs to the MIB Database will not automatically add compatibility to polling your Device, and make us discover any new monitors. Adding MIBs to the MIB database will only apply in two Cases: The SNMP - User Experience Monitor and Traps.

Custom SNMP Monitor:

Custom SNMP Monitor is used to retrieve and analyze data from SNMP enabled network devices, services and applications. The SNMP - User Experience Monitor retrieves a Numeric or Textual value from an SNMP agent and then tests the value against the rules you define.

Traps:

If you are receiving a Trap from this Device, and the MIB for the Trap does not exist in the Current MIB Database, it will not display the Correct Data. Updating the MIBs will resolve this issue.

Monitor Text In File

I setup a file monitor to look for the text "Finished".  If it finds the text, the monitor is green.  If it doesn't find the text, the monitor remains green.  I would like a failure if the text is not found.  How can I accomplish this?

My ultimate goal is to send an alert if this monitor does not find the word "Finished."  I am sure I could pull this off with a VBScript.  However, I am hoping that your file monitor would provide a quick solution.
